I am Shari Kumar. Desi Clothes for INDIA was founded with a passion to do something for the less fortunate people in India, especially children, and to make them feel special.  Like many Indian families in the USA, I visit India every few years.  Even though I enjoy the trips, it is very heartbreaking to see the less fortunate children and homeless people in India in old tattered clothing.  Some were almost my age and did not look too different from me, yet were so unfortunate.  I couldn't turn away and pretend that I didn't see them. Their sad faces haunted me.  It seemed unfair that I had so much and for no fault of theirs, they had almost nothing.  I felt worse when I knew that I had so many clothes that I could give them, but were in my closet in America.  I had clothes I had overgrown, and some of which were new, but didn't fit me anymore.  If only there was a way to send them to these less fortunate, yet such deserving people.  During my trips to India, due to luggage weight restrictions, I could carry only a few clothes to donate.  Most people who visit India, do the same, but unfortunately even those clothes are given away to house maids and their relatives.  The truly needy are in orphanages, in sheltered homes, and on the streets.  



I know there are many people in the USA who think and feel like me. Donating to local charities such as Goodwill and Salvation Army, is not an option because they have no use for our fine traditional Indian clothes.  With a passion I decided to figure a way that I can get these clothes to the needy in India.  After many months of research, I am pleased to say some opportunities are opening up.  Now, you can help people in need in India by donating your lovely, yet unwanted clothes to Desi Clothes for INDIA .  Your lovely Indian clothing donations can make a huge difference to those who are struggling.  Donating such elegant clothing can enable a them to feel empowered, confident and special.  



I am a high school student who wants to make a difference.  In the heart of Desi Clothes for INDIA is the fervor to bring hope and empowerment to  the powerless in India and awareness around the world about what can be done for those in India.  These children may be less fortunate, but are just as deserving as any one of us.  After all which child does not want to have a colorful, fancy and stylish set of clothes to wear on a special occasion?  It could be for his or her birthday, a festival or a celebration.  Your clothes might have been expensive, but they will be priceless to the one receiving it.  Join hands with Desi Clothes for INDIA and donate your elegant formal traditional Indian clothes to those in need in India and make their dreams come true.
